[00:00.00] OASIS by Eric Wise
[00:19.00] At the edge of a pond
[00:22.00] Sits a clearing primeval
[00:26.00] Like a scented love note
[00:31.00] Jasmine fills my senses
[00:39.00] Feet splash in the mud
[00:41.00] I start to wander
[00:46.00] The warmth of the sun
[00:50.00] Azure, skies above
[00:56.00] Oasis
[01:01.00] I need to get away
[01:06.00] Oasis
[01:10.00] From my day
[01:16.00] Oasis
[01:20.00] I’d ask you to join me
[01:25.00] But my Oasis is hidden away
[01:36.00] A trail up a mountain
[01:40.00] A rock slips under my foot
[01:45.00] Leading to something beautiful
[01:49.00] Can’t wait to take a look
[01:56.00] Silence surrounds me
[01:59.00] Surprised, I feel at home
[02:04.00] The answering song, a Whippoorwill
[02:09.00] I am not alone
[02:13.00] Oasis
[02:17.00] I need to get away
[02:23.00] Oasis
[02:27.00] From my day
[02:32.00] Oasis
[02:36.00] I’d ask you to join me
[02:42.00] But my Oasis is hidden away
[02:53.00] Clouds dance together
[02:57.00] Flirting with the sun
[03:02.00] Till they race away
[03:05.00] Across the sky they will run
[03:12.00] A breeze rustles the leaves
[03:17.00] Crickets call for their mates
[03:21.00] The wonder of it all
[03:25.00] Let me see what else awaits
[03:31.00] At the edge of a pond
[03:36.00] We all need a place
[03:40.00] A place all our own
[03:45.00] Somewhere we go alone
[03:49.00] Oasis
[03:53.00] I need to get away
[03:59.00] Oasis
[04:03.00] From my day
[04:09.00] Oasis
[04:12.00] I’d ask you to join me
[04:18.00] But my Oasis is hidden away
[04:28.00] Oasis
[04:33.00] Oasis
[04:40.00] Oasis
[04:44.00] Oasis
[04:54.00] Oasis

“Oasis” is a musical masterpiece” … “Oasis” is more than simply a song; it’s an invitation to let go, relax, and relish the lovely moments it generates.

Song Diary
Oasis is musically very simple. There are 8 bars that repeat during the entire song. Listeners wait patiently for the riff in bar 7 to pull them back and start it all again.
This is the first song I wrote without a chorus where the music is different from the verses and "rises" to give the chorus a fresh and energetic lift.
That simple fact, as well as the simplicity of the music caused me to doubt the song's quality at first. But my wife, Bianca, immediately was drawn to the song. Hard to fight a strong opinion and eventually I joined the band wagon as a fan and advocate of Oasis as well.
During the vocal sessions, I kept asking the vocalist, Christine Corless, to add more harmonies and background vocal layers. I asked a lot but got even more! The vocals in the finished song are perfect!
I was at a music camp participating in a songwriting class. The instructor led us on a 10 minute walk through the woods around Lake Winnipesakee. Then we were asked to write a song about the experience. The first two lines popped immediately into my head. "At the edge of a pond, sits a clearing primeval". And off I went into the writing!
My goal was to write a song with lots of sensory imagery, and visuals. A relaxing song to listen to with your eyes closed.
The critics have loved the song and I am so appreciative. It is very comforting to create something you believe is beautiful and have the critics agree.
“Oasis,” is a blissful escape into tranquility and musical brilliance in a world bursting with constant hustle and bustle.

Songwriters often utilize techniques like a rhyme scheme to help the listener to understand the lyrics and to stay invested in the song's idea.
This song has no rhymes in verse one. Yet the lyric works because of the compelling ideas and visuals. Apparently no one misses the rhymes.
In other words I broke a few "rules" in the songwriting of this song. No different chorus and an inconsistent rhyme scheme. I deeply believe that in songwriting, "If it works, It is good. Period".
