LYRICS
VERSE 1
Driving you home as the curfew clock struck trouble
Your dad on the porch was waiting
"That's not just some girl
That's my daughter you're dating"
PRE-CHORUS
A calendar on January first
Page turned for better for worse
CHORUS
Good Old Days are never gone
There's always time to have some fun
Tonight's story, Tomorrow's Good Times
Let’s sing some songs put it to rhyme
VERSE 2
Our little Susie's not so little any more
On her way to the Junior Prom dance floor
Now it's me waiting on the porch
An actor, a scene in history's encore
PRE-CHORUS
Good Old Days are like ships in the night
Not passing by just out of sight
CHORUS
Good Old Days are never gone
There's always time to have some fun
Tonight's story, Tomorrow's Good Times
Let’s sing some songs put it to rhyme
VERSE 3
A decade has passed
Susie's day's come at last
Before I give her away
Photos get their way
A few shots by the fountain
Unexpected swim
Jeans and T-shirts for the album
PRE-CHORUS
We look to the past for lessons learned
Like life, album pages turn
CHORUS
Good Old Days are never gone
There's always time to have some fun
Tonight's story, Tomorrow's Good Times
Lets sing some songs put them to rhyme
Let’s sing some songs put them to rhyme

Good Old Days – Song Diary
This song was my first ever song. Written way back in 2015, it came from a prompt in a songwriting course I took. The prompt was to write a song plot for a title. One of the titles was “Good Old Days”. I wrote the song plot and then continued with all the lyrics.
The line “Driving you home as the curfew clock struck trouble” literally just came to me. That was the first time that I got a line from nowhere! It was not the last time. Some full songs have “just come to me” over the years.
The song is about how events in our lives give us stories to tell forever. In this case the similarities to when the singer was dating (verse 1) and then when his daughter was dating (verse 2). The last story told comes from my time working at a banquet hall in my early 20’s. There were a lot of weddings there and occasionally a bride and groom would fall into the fountain while taking photos before the ceremony. They then had to be married in their “get away” clothes.
I remember writing the music with my black Pig Nose Stratocaster. My daughter had a few friends over and they kept coming up and asking what I was playing. They thought it was cool I was writing a song.
That was the day I fell in love with the C# minor chord!
To this day the music is still unchanged from that day it was written.
